Steven Harrigan looks at the arrival of Borna Bearhewiz.
PLAYER - Borna Bariŝić
FROM - NK Osijek
FEE - 2.2m
POSITION - LB
EXPECTATIONS - HIGH
As Jack put it he's the new Roberto Carlos.
I think we as a fan base are all genuinely excited about this player, and where he will fit into Steve Gs plans. A player who was no doubt on the radar of this and other high ranking European clubs, this serves as a massive coup by Rangers in securing the players' signature. A player who could, and I expect to net the club a healthy profit in the coming years.
Of course Bariŝić came to the attention of many Rangers fans in the side's previous two matches in the Europa league, however I think his performances over the two legs only helped, asserted and strengthen the management teams views, that we must pull out all the stops to secure his signature.
I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that our very own players waxed lyrical over him, having went toe to toe in the heat of battle. We are getting a dynamic creative fullback who both can attack and defend. So clear were his talents that he was named in the initial 32 man Croatian squad for the world cup in Russia, no mean feat considering that squads' talent level, and how things transpired.
He might just be the best thing to don a hairband since his fellow countryman Dado Prso, but I expect more style on show.
We might all be rocking up to Ibrox doing our favourite Rab C impressions soon enough. This is a player I can't wait to see in the famous light blue.
